Transactions, the leading international journal of geographical research, publishes the very best scholarship from around the world, across the whole range of the discipline. The distinctive role of the journal is to:
- publish ‘landmark’ articles that make a major theoretical, conceptual or empirical contribution to the advancement of geographical knowledge
- stimulate and shape research agendas in human and physical geography
- publish articles, ‘Boundary crossing’ essays and commentaries that are international and interdisciplinary in their scope and content.
Published since 1935, Transactions is now one of the most widely read and cited geographical journals (in 2007, it led the ISI rankings).

Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers is ranked the number one journal in Geography in the ISI Journal Citation Reports, 2007, and achieves an impact factor greater than 4.
Professor Alison Blunt, Queen Mary University of London, has been appointed Editor of Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers as of January 2008.
