The Geographical Journal

Established in 1831, The Geographical Journal publishes original research and scholarship in physical and human geography. Until 2000, it was the Royal Geographical Society’s journal of report.

Particular emphasis is placed on:

  • all aspects of environment and development relating to geography
  • publishing research findings undertaken using a wide range of approaches
  • publishing substantial papers, accessible to a wide audience
  • encouraging papers from all parts of the world
  • ensuring rigorous standards of refereeing.

The Geographical Journal publishes regular special issues on the latest topics.

In addition to academic articles, the journal features a renowned book review section, the annual Society news and Presidential Address, and obituaries of eminent members of the geographical community.
